Privacy Policy

1. What We Collect

When you create an account, we collect your email address and name via our authentication provider (Clerk). When you use StoryGuard, we store the content you create: campaigns, codex entries and the links between them, secrets and when they were revealed, session plans and notes, recaps, packs, and the results of AI features. We also log usage events (for example, sessions created or recaps generated) and subscription changes to understand how the product is used.

2. How We Use Your Data

Your content is used solely to provide the StoryGuard service to you. We do not sell your data, share it with third parties for marketing purposes, or use it to train AI models.

Our AI features send the relevant parts of your campaign (codex entries, links, secrets, and session notes) to Anthropic's API to produce a result. This happens when you use What changed?, generate a recap, check continuity, look for loose threads on the prep sheet, or import existing notes. If you turn on automatic continuity checks, it also happens automatically after you edit your session notes. If you connect your own Anthropic API key, these requests run on your key under your own agreement with Anthropic.

3. Data Storage

Your data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted on Neon (AWS us-east-1). We take reasonable technical measures to protect your data from unauthorized access. No storage system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

• Clerk: authentication and user management
• Neon: PostgreSQL database hosting
• Anthropic: the AI features described above
• Stripe: subscription payments (we never see or store your card details)
• Vercel: application hosting and privacy-friendly, cookieless page analytics
• Google Ads: measuring how our ads perform, such as whether a visit from an ad led to a sign-up
• PostHog: product analytics and session replay, described in section 7

Each service has its own privacy policy governing their handling of data.

5. Packs You Share

Packs are private to you unless you choose otherwise. If you share a pack with everyone, other users can view it and add copies to their campaigns. If you make a pack community-edited, other users can also propose and vote on changes to it. Entries you mark as DM-only stay secret in the campaigns that add them.

6. Data Retention & Deletion

Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual campaigns at any time from the app, and you can delete your account and everything in it from Account Settings. Copies of a pack that other users already added to their campaigns remain in those campaigns. If you need help, contact us at the email below and we will process your request within 30 days.

7. Cookies, Analytics, and Session Replay

We use session cookies set by Clerk for authentication. Our website and blog also load the Google Ads tag, which sets advertising cookies so we can measure how our ads perform and show our ads to people who have visited before. Google handles this data under its own privacy policy. You can manage ad personalization at adssettings.google.com.

We use PostHog to understand how people use StoryGuard. It records page views, clicks, the site that referred you, and events such as signing up or subscribing, and it keeps an identifier in a cookie and local storage so visits can be linked to your account once you sign in. PostHog also records session replays, a reconstruction of how pages were navigated, to help us find confusing screens and bugs. Inside the app and on your account page, replays hide all text and everything you type, and click tracking records no on-screen text, so your campaign content (notes, codex entries, secrets, and recaps) never reaches PostHog. On public pages such as the homepage and blog, page text is recorded but anything you type is hidden.

Your campaign content is never shared with Google Ads or PostHog.

8. Children

StoryGuard is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

9. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify active users of material changes by email or in-app notice.
